Clinton Road, United States of America

Stretching about ten miles, Clinton Road in New Jersey is steeped in sinister tales lurking around each twist and turn of its dense woods. Because of the many fatal accidents that have occurred over time, this road's specific bend is known to be quite haunted. Recognized among the haunted roads globally, it boasts a collection of ghost stories, and the infamous ones include:

  •  According to a local legend, a child who drowned in the river below the Old Boy Bridge on Clinton Road still haunts the bridge. Several visitors claimed to have seen his reflection in the water, and some tourists claim that if someone looks over the side of the bridge, his ghost will pull them into the river. If you happen to be on Clinton Road, pull over near the bridge and throw a coin into the river for a fun, eerie bump. Next, what? Eventually, the spirit of the little boy will toss the coin back at you.

  • A driver’s worst fear is the infamous “Phantom Truck”. This mysterious dark vehicle or strange floating lights shows up unexpectedly, speeds up with beaming headlights and follows uncomfortably close, then suddenly disappears without a trace.

  • The odd tales don’t stop here; it's said that this road is where Satan worshippers and Ku Klux Klan members gather. There are also claims of occult rituals happening in the nearby woods. A grey wolf hunting humans, blood-stained attire hung by devil worshippers, genetically modified animals in the deserted zoo are other spooky sightings reported by travelers.

  • In a "dead zone," many drivers lost their radio and cell phone connections, and a 1988 Camaro driven by a dead girl could be seen.

While the woman’s neck broke and died, the husband was crushed beneath the carriage and left to die in torment as he witnessed his wife’s body decay. Is the A75 Road really haunted by restless spirits, or are these just stories made up to intrigue the curious minds?

A229 Sussex to Kent, United Kingdom

Ghost stories abound along the ominous A229 road, which stretches over 30 miles (48 km). Numerous passengers reported seeing a woman in white emerge in front of their vehicle and then abruptly vanish. The woman, who is thought to be Judith Langham, is said to haunt the road after she tragically died on the day of her wedding in 1965.

A lonely woman dressed in white was spotted by a few drivers standing by the road. After accepting a ride, she told them her address. However, after a while, they checked the rearview mirror and found no one sitting in the backseat. And when the driver arrived at the venue, they were told that their passenger had already passed away.

It was once claimed that a local bricklayer had run over a young girl and covered her body with a blanket. The area was thoroughly searched after he and the cops arrived, but the girl was never spotted. Strange? Ultimately, it serves as a doorway to the supernatural, luring you in with secrets and puzzles.

Wakehurst Parkway, Australia

Near Sydney's north beaches, the 9-mile (14-kilometer) Wakehurst Parkway is well-known for its eerie atmosphere and deadly collisions. With a history of supernatural phenomena, an apparition of a woman wearing an old white nun-like uniform is believed to haunt the road at night. On his way home from work, one local noticed a woman standing close to the road. He crossed her and looked in his rear mirror, but she vanished.

Believers claim that a terrifying figure known as "Kelly" shows up in the midst of this fog-covered road around three in the morning, and then what? Without warning, she would be in your backseat, grinning devilishly. According to legend, if you see her spirit, she will interrupt the radios, switch channels, reduce the temperature of cars, and even lock the door.

The Wakehurst Parkway has also been the resting place of countless murder victims and the deceased's ghosts are sometimes spotted. Avoid making eye contact to shield yourself from the freaky spirits that are rumored to inhabit the region.

After all, we really don't want to get stuck in a staring contest with ghosts, do we? And don't even think about exploring this haunted route at night! Stick to daylight hours and keep your eyes on the road!

Belchen Tunnel, Switzerland

The 3,000-meter-long Belchen Tunnel, which passes through the Jura Mountains, is a major source of transportation. Opened in 1966, the haunted Belchen Tunnel road in Switzerland has many spooky tales. The first known ghost is a male hitchhiker from the 1980s. Drivers often pick him up, but he mysteriously vanishes, even at high speeds.

The next strange appearance is the spirit of a clumsy, pallid and aged woman. On a particular night, two female attorneys saw "The White Lady," while traveling on the highway and offered her a ride. When they enquired if she was alright? "No, I'm not. Something really terrible is going to happen," she said in a disturbing tone. However, the ghost was gone as they turned to face the passenger seat.

With its gloomy light and chilling whispers, this tunnel will make even the most skeptical driver glance nervously in the mirror. Hold on to the handle and keep an eye out for any unexpected visitors if you dare to travel down this terrifying path!

E8 Expressway, Malaysia

The E8 Expressway or Karak Highway, opened to the public in 1977 and quickly became the talk of the world as a place to see ghostly happenings. The eerie phases began following the 1990 Highway Crash, in which a bus full of passengers collided with a truck, a lorry, two taxis, and six cars, resulting in 17 deaths. Below are a few prominent stories:

  • Travelers have come across a little schoolboy wandering the road alone. There was a tragic accident where the mother was thrown out of the car to her death and the child later succumbed to injuries. According to reports, the child is still searching for his late mother and will keep asking, "Have you seen my mother?" if someone gives him a ride. Unsettling? But the saga doesn't end here.

  • Seeing a Volkswagen Beetle on the road is normal, but if you come across one on the Karak Highway, don’t ever think of overtaking it! The Volkswagen will suddenly come into view, block your lane, and move slowly. If you pass it, the yellow Volkswagen will keep up with you and block your way again. As long as you overtake the Volkswagen, it will relentlessly reappear in your line, again and again, resulting in mishaps! Witnesses have reported a strange scene where the car appeared to be reversing, without a driver.

  • The flying Pontianak, a female vampire who preys on males and destroys their internal organs, is another well-known fable. Numerous motorists have seen her flying over the highway, and rumored to be a woman's ghost who died while giving birth.

  • Weird noises, shadows glimpsed in mirrors, hitchhiker's ghost seeking a lift, and an unfamiliar passenger disappearing in a flash are all enough to chill you to the bone.

Fortunately, having spectral friends to lead the way reduces the need for a GPS!
