Our Team

  • A young man with glasses smiling while holding a phone, sitting at a table in a brick-walled restaurant with wooden ceiling beams and hanging lights.

    Ande

Ande Thomas is a life-long horror fan, supporting member of the Horror Writers Association and the Director of What Sleeps Beneath. Our resident cinephile, Ande is also one of the founding members. Boasting an average of 400 films watched per year, Ande’s breadth of knowledge spans far beyond the horror genre. His work centers on original academic research that links narrative and plot to current political and social discourse. As a standing judge of the Pittsburgh Moving Picture Festival, Ande looks for films that disrupt and challenge the definition of the horror genre. His favorite films include the intersection of sci-fi and horror, where our understanding of the natural world clashes with our fear of the new and unknown.

    Destiny

Destiny King is one of the founding members of What Sleeps Beneath, acting as the Publisher and Digital Asset Manager. She has a bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing (Nonfiction) and a Professional Writing Certificate from the University of Pittsburgh. In 2020, Destiny joined WSB editors to present a “Women in Folk Horror” talk on domestic magic and ritual objects for Rural Gothic, an online series of conferences hosted by Room 207 Press. In 2023, Destiny became a supporting member of the Horror Writers Association. Her interests in the genre revolve mostly around true crime and thrillers, however, Destiny also appreciates gothic horror and TV horror.

    Theresa

With a background in fine art and cultural anthropology, Theresa Baughman comes to the horror genre with a focus on the material effects of pop culture in storytelling. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from the University of Pittsburgh where she completed four independent research projects studying the relationships between object and environment. Theresa’s writing frequently examines the subversive means in which a plot is driven such as the narrative consequences of color, image, and sound. She is particularly interested in gendered horror, political horror, and religious horror. Theresa is one of the original founding members of What Sleeps Beneath and serves as the Creative Director for the publication.

What Sleeps Beneath is proud to collaborate with and support these cinematic and horror community organizations.
